03 / THE PERSON BEHIND THE PURPOSE
Founder of BeTheOne | Nurse Practitioner | Critical Care Nurse
Bojkena Selmanaj is a Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience in critical care nursing and a deep passion for saving lives, educating others, and making a difference in people’s lives.
Throughout her nursing career, Bojkena has embraced every opportunity to care for others. Some of her most meaningful experiences have been as a recovery nurse volunteering on medical missions in Africa, helping people in underserved communities who face barriers to accessing care. Through Operation International, she has participated in medical missions to Africa for three consecutive years and plans to continue her humanitarian work in Cambodia in January 2027.
Working in high-pressure, life-threatening situations has taught Bojkena the importance of staying calm, thinking clearly, and acting confidently when every second matters. These experiences inspired her to create BeTheOne — a CPR and lifesaving education initiative built on one powerful belief: everyone should have the knowledge and confidence to make a difference when a life is on the line.
Her mission is to empower both healthcare professionals and everyday individuals with the skills, confidence, and readiness to recognize an emergency and take action while waiting for emergency medical services (EMS) to arrive.
Whether it’s a child choking, an athlete suddenly collapsing, or someone experiencing cardiac arrest, the right knowledge and immediate action can save a life.
Bojkena believes that knowledge is power — and everyone deserves to feel empowered, prepared, and confident enough to BeTheOne who steps up when it matters most.
Bojkena speaks English, Albanian, and Spanish.
